Research group: Biomechanics

Andreas Lipphaus is an engineer and a physician. His research interest in the mechanobiological modeling of bone growth and fracture healing in children and adolescents results from several years as a research assistant in the Biomechanics Research Group. Further research activities include the virtual analysis of osteosynthesis implants using the finite element method and the development of medical devices in pediatric surgery. Collaborations with various clinics enable translational research into the clinical application of engineering models.

Research

  • Mechanobiology of bone growth and fracture healing
  • Biomechanics of pediatric femur fractures and elastic-stable intramedullary nailing
  • Additive manufacturing for surgical planning of embryonic tumors

Completed projects

  • Preclinical computational simulation of fracture healing in children (DFG grants)
  • Inferring the Swimming Mode of Jurassic Plesiosaurs Using Muscle Reconstructions, Bone Histology, and Advanced Finite Element Methods (DFG grants)

Teaching

  • Analysis in biomechanics
  • Synthesis in biomechanics
  • Supervising bachelor/master theses
